Abstract Pornography

Pornography and abstract art are antithetical modes of expression. Almost by definition, the former relies on graphic representation of sex organs; furthermore, mainstream pornography is notoriously superficial, formulaic, and disposable. Abstract art, by contrast, is non-representational in nature. Abstract artists shun literal depiction of real-world things; their imagery is subjective, ambiguous, and unconventional. This project is an attempt to bridge the conceptual divide between pornography and abstraction, presenting sex organs at extreme magnification, often with ambiguous framing, so that these familiar subjects are transformed into something new, at once deeply intimate and strangely disembodied.
