Abstract Pornography

Pornography and abstract art are antithetical modes of expression. The former is typically associated with graphic representation of sex organs, whereas the latter shuns straightforward visual references to real-world things. Pornography is notoriously literal and rarely rewards sustained attention. Abstract art, by contrast, is subjective, ambiguous, and works best when the viewer his allowed to meditate on the work, to probe down into an emotion, to explore auras of association beyond the compass of explicit definition. This project is an attempt to bridge the conceptual divide between pornography and abstraction, presenting sex organs at extreme magnification, often with ambiguous framing, so that these familiar subjects are transformed into some thing new, at once deeply intimate and strangely disembodied.
